Charlie Moritz

Derbyshire based singer-songwriter Charlie Moritz has cherry-picked two of the late Angie Mycock’s poems to perform at the forthcoming ‘More Than Words’ creative writing day at Maggie’s Manchester on Saturday 19 September.

It will be the first time Charlie performs the special songs ‘Red Lipstick’ and ‘From my pillow’ in honour of Angie’s creative talent unleashed during her weekly writing sessions run by Clare Stuart at Maggie’s.

Charlie, who is also a play and scriptwriter, has shared his songs and poetry at Clare’s popular sessions as well as performed on stages across the Peak District and Greater Manchester for many years.

At the age of 15, he first picked up a guitar and was soon singing regularly at open mics across Manchester’s vibrant folk scene.

In more recent years, he has played and sung as a featured artist at a number of venues as well as festivals across the City and the Peak District.  In 2024, he was earmarked to attend the National Centre for Folk Arts at Halsway Manor’s well established Open House week and tracks off his recently released third album ‘Seeking Connection’ have been featured on a number of regional radio folk shows.

Charlie, whose songwriting ranges far and wide in tone and subject matter, said: “Over the years I have occasionally set other poets’ work to music, however, I felt particularly privileged to accept this invitation to create music from two of Angie’s beautiful poems. I’m really looking forward to giving the songs their first ever public performance as part of ‘More Than Words’ – will be such a special day for those affected by cancer who want to embrace their inner creative.”
