More than Words celebrates the extraordinary life and legacy of Angie Mycock who was supported by Maggie’s Manchester. Angie especially valued the writing group which nourished her creative talent, where she made new friends and enjoyed many hours ‘putting pen to paper’ round the table at Maggie’s.

I Matter

I never thought on first arrival,

this group would be crucial to my survival.

At first we met in a glasshouse of light,

sipped coffee, shared thoughts, our writing took flight.

Mind jaded from meds, I can’t quite remember,

I think we approached late September.

I was timid that day, a pen paused with fear,

ink swelling and filling to fall like a tear.

Then salt drops emerged – first drizzle then rain

Splashing pages and pages with love and with pain.

Our weekly sojourn became a safe place,

to shine rays of gold in the darkness we face.

Forward wind time – it’s fall and we chatter

Thank God for Mondays – they remind me I matter.
